Linking up to the Homeschool Chick today.
In my life this week… I’ve been sorting through the kids rooms and getting them to part with some unloved toys, books and clothes they’ve grown out of. Generally, with my son, he lets me get on with it as long as his Lego and his history and science books remain – they are all very much loved! My daughter is a horder though. We’ve lived in this house for almost three years and there are some things she has not touched in that time, but will she part from them? Uh, no! We finally agreed to put stuff like this in a toy box in the basement and will revisit it in six months!
In our homeschool this week… We began to study Ancient Greece. It has been a refreshing change, as it feels like we’ve been learning about the Ancient Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Phonecians and Persians for months and months now! The book we are using is Streams of History: Ancient Greece. Every day the kids have asked for “just one more chapter!” I love books like that!
I am inspired by… Both of my kids! They both have learning challenges, but are coming on leaps and bounds this year. I’m so proud of them!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… no field trips or anything this week, although we’re off to Calais, Maine tomorrow for groceries and mail – does that count
(we live in NB, Canada)
What’s working/not working for us…I don’t think my son’s French program is working for him this year. He’s not retaining enough, and quite often in his grammar, they are expecting him to use words that the main text has not yet taught him. We are using First Start French. I can’t afford Rosetta Stone, so will be on the lookout for a different program for next year. Any suggestions?
Questions/thoughts I have…My constant thought process right now is do I homeschool through highschool or not? My son is mid way through grade 7, so high school applications will have to go in this time next year, or before. I don’t mind homeschooling through high school, but I’m worried about it too.
Things I’m working on…Organizing the house and that scarf I promised my husband for, uh-hm, Christmas.
I’m reading…Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis
I’m cooking…vegetarian meals at the moment!
I’m grateful for…this beautiful place I call home
I’m praying for…direction

I loved Kisses From Katie
We just made the big commitment to homeschool all the way through last year. I will be praying God leads you in the right direction, whatever that is.
Thank you!
Isn’t it hard to decide about homeschooling high school? My son is also in 7th as well, but we’re planning on doing a “trial” year of high school next year. (He is 2 years ahead and could’ve done high school this year, but *I* wasn’t! LOL)
A trial at home? Do you know what curriculum you’ll use yet?
