“He took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” Genesis 15: 5-6 (NIV)
Todays symbol is a sky of stars. They are to remind us of God’s promise to Abraham, the promise of a son. It was Abraham’s descendants who became the chosen people of God. As we read on in Abraham’s story we find that God asked him to make a long journey that would take him far away from home (Genesis 12:1-17).
Sometimes God asks us to do things which are hard, and to go to places which we would rather not. Abraham still had problems and struggles, but God blessed him for his faithfulness, and God was with him.
Today think about whether God has been asking you to do something or go to a place which you find hard. If not, think about a time when God did ask something of you that you found hard to do. Looking back how did things turn out? Can you see where God was walking with you and blessing you for your faithfulness?
If God is asking something of you that you are unsure about, then maybe now is the time to take the jump and know that God will catch you as you fall. We can read more about Abraham’s faithfulness in Genesis 15:1-6.
