Ram – JT Devotion Day Five

2 Dec

“But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”  “Here I am,” he replied.  “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” Genesis 22: 11-12 (NIV)

Today’s symbol is a ram, which was sacrificed instead of Issac.  When the angel came and stopped Abraham from sacrificing Issac, Abraham sacrificed a ram instead, to honour God and thank him for saving Issac’s life.  Abraham named the place “The Lord will provide” depending on what bible you read that will either be written as Jehovah Jireh or Yahweh-Yireh. Many hundreds of years later Christ became the perfect lamb who was slain for our sins, which Abraham alluded to when he said to Issac that “God will provide himself a lamb”.

God looks for and honours our obedience.  Sometimes we go places with God which look like they are a dead end.  We must trust that the Lord will provide.  He always has his eye on us through good times and bad times.  Today praise God for the provision he has given you in your life.  If you feel like you are in a dead end ask God to send his provision and trust that he will provide for you.  You can read more about Abraham and Issac in Genesis 22:1-19.
